What are you most into right now?

New Year, New Current: A 9-Card Lenormand Spread

New Year’s Eve is a doorway, but not the “new year, new you” kind that comes with glittery pressure and impossible promises. This is the softer kind. A threshold moment where you get to decide what’s coming with you, what’s staying behind, and what direction you want your energy to flow.

This Lenormand spread is designed to help you:

  • release what’s complete

  • keep what truly supported you

  • choose your best next direction

  • anchor one clear focus for January

No perfection required. Just honesty and a little curiosity.

What you need

  • Your Lenormand deck

  • A notebook or Notes app

  • Optional: a candle or a glass of water (very cleansing and to set the intention)

The Spread: “Crossing the Threshold” (9 Cards)

Pull 9 cards and lay them out in three rows of three:

1 2 34 5 67 8 9

Card positions (what each one means)

  1. What last year taught me The lesson that kept repeating, the theme you mastered, or the truth you finally saw.

  2. What I’m officially done with What’s complete, expired, or no longer yours to carry into the new year.

  3. What wants to follow me into the new year The gift, skill, relationship, mindset, or momentum worth bringing forward.

  4. My power theme for the year ahead Your “strong spine” energy. What you’re meant to embody more fully.

  5. The heart of the year The core focus. The center point that everything else tends to orbit.

  6. A hidden influence Something shaping your year quietly: behind the scenes, in your blind spot, or in the background.

  7. Where I’ll grow the most The stretch zone. The area where life is asking you to expand.

  8. My best next step for January One simple, practical move that starts your new current immediately.

  9. What success looks like by year’s end Your “this is working” sign. How you’ll recognize progress when you see it.

How to read it (without spiraling)

1) Start with the center card (Position 5)

Card 5 is your anchor for the entire reading. If you only interpret one card, interpret this one.

Ask yourself:

  • “What is this year trying to organize itself around?”

  • “What would make everything feel simpler, clearer, or more aligned?”

2) Read each row like a sentence

Lenormand is a language. Let the rows tell you a story:

  • Top row (1–2–3): The past shifting into the future

  • Middle row (4–5–6): The engine of the year

  • Bottom row (7–8–9): The path forward and how it pays off

3) Notice the “characters”

Lenormand often reveals who or what is driving the theme.

  • Person cards (Man/Woman): a key person, or you in a certain role

  • Animals (Fox, Bear, Dog): motives, protection, loyalty, strategy, instincts

  • Places (House, Tower, Garden): home life, systems, community, isolation, public spaces

When a “character” appears, it often answers the question: why is this happening this way?

Quick interpretation tips for New Year readings

If you pull “reset and release” cards

Some cards are blunt on purpose. They’re not scary, they’re clarifying.

  • Coffin: closure, completion, something is truly done

  • Scythe: a clean cut, a decision, ripping off the bandage

  • Cross: burdens turning into wisdom, a values-based year

New Year message: You’re not behind. You’re shedding what’s too heavy to take forward.

If you pull “momentum and opportunity” cards

These are the “wind at your back” cards.

  • Rider: news, messages, movement, an offer

  • Ship: expansion, travel, long-term goals, growth beyond your comfort zone

  • Sun / Stars: success, confidence, visibility, direction

New Year message: The current is moving in your favor. Say yes faster. Overthink less.

If you pull “relationship and social” themes

New years love to bring clarity around connections.

  • Heart / Ring / Bouquet: love, commitment, sweetness, harmony

  • Snake: triangles, jealousy, temptation, or “this isn’t clean energy”

  • Fox: strategy, self-interest, workplace vibes, “be smart, not naïve”

New Year message: Protect your peace like it’s a paid subscription.

A one-minute New Year ritual to seal the reading

After you interpret Card 8 (your January step), write this sentence:

“In January, I commit to: __________.”

Then choose one tiny action you can do within 48 hours. Not a complete reinvention. Just a signal. A small proof to yourself and the universe that you’re serious about this new current.

Here are some quick examples:

  • If you pulled Clover: take a small chance (post the video, send the email, apply for the thing)

  • If you pulled House: reset your space (declutter one drawer, tidy your altar, refresh your bedroom)

  • If you pulled Garden: be visible (join a group, attend an event, post something personal)

  • If you pulled Mountain: pick one obstacle and make a simple plan (one step, one call, one boundary)

Mini example (so you can see how it flows)

Let’s say your center card (Position 5) is Ship.

That can mean:

  • the year is about expansion and bigger horizons

  • growth comes from trying what you haven’t tried before

  • staying “safe” might feel like stagnation

Then if Card 8 (January step) is Rider, January’s best move could be:

  • send the message

  • post the announcement

  • follow up on an opportunity

  • launch the thing you’ve been circling

Simple. Forward. New current activated.

New Year energy doesn’t require perfection. It asks for direction. Let this spread show you what your soul already knows: what you’re done carrying, what you’re ready to build, and what kind of year you’re stepping into. Happy New Year!
